With this being the first update regarding the replacement of the pool's plant room, I thought it best to explain the state of the machinery before the work begins and everything starts changing drastically over the next 6 weeks. The plant room has reached the end of it's serviceable lifespan, having been operating almost every day for the last 25 years. The pipe work is leaking, the boilers are only running at a minimal output and over the years various parts of the equipment have been changed or replaced with no thorough documentation recorded. For Staff, working in the plant room has become a constant pain, the room itself is badly organised and cumbersome to navigate, thus making it a difficult working environment. The original operational procedures for the plant room are virtually non-existent and over the last few years we have had to recreate them from scratch whilst solving problems as they happen. Currently one such fault means that we are unable to heat the pool and filter it at the same time, so staff have to constantly change the flow direction of the filters in order to keep both the water temperature warm enough and the water clarity to a desired level. The planned work will mean a safer, better designed working area and a more reliable & cost efficient plant room. This will therefore create less closures and a better environment for both staff and members. The images below are of the plant room taken just before the work is scheduled to begin and you can see the various items of machinery including pool filters & pumps, boiler, water tank & de-humidifier, brominator, acid tank & pool ADU units. |
Also contained in the plant works is the planned under-pool structure support for the poolside floors. Poor ventilation and the resulting hot, humid air underneath the poolside has caused significant corrosion of the steel girders that support the concrete slabs upon which the floor tiles sit. These girders need to be replaced in order to ensure that the structural integrity of the poolside is maintained. This work will be carried out alongside the replacement of the heating and drainage pipework under the poolside as part of the new plant room installation. Undertaking this work alongside the plant room ensures the pool is closed only for the current six weeks and not again in the future for an undetermined length of time; causing yet more disruption for the club.
On behalf of all the club staff & The HRA Management Company; I would like to extend my thanks to everyone for the positive feedback we have received from members so far regarding this work. Whilst having the pool closed for this time is an unpleasant eventuality; I am grateful for the understanding and patience that has been expressed by you all and we hope to get the pool back up and running as soon as possible, and hopefully with no delays!
I am aiming to update this page on a weekly basis with photos and information so you can all see how the work is progressing.
Thanks & see you next week!
