Welcome to plant room update number 5! A lot of things happened last week, so let's dive right in:
Unfortunately, despite the steady progression of work being undertaken, there is going to be a delay of at least a further four weeks until the pool will be able to open again. A specialist survey was undertaken underneath the poolside floor (In the under-croft) for asbestos fibres and traces of 'Chrysotile & Amosite' were detected in the insulation there. HSE have been notified and there is a two week waiting period before specialists can be sent down to remove the materials and clean the area. Thanks to the fact that access to the under-croft is exclusively available from inside the plant room, the asbestos present poses no viable threat to the rest of the club and we are fortunate to be able to keep the gym open as normal during the building work. Because of the time it will take to make the area safe to enter, there will be a delay in removing & replacing the pool's drainage system, leaking skimmer baskets & installing the new poolside floor supports. The delay will not affect any of the work currently underway in the plant room, above poolside area or changing rooms and this work is still scheduled to finish on time for the middle of May. I'd like to once again say a massive thank you to everyone for their continued patience and understanding while the work is under way and while this delay isn't desirable, I ask you to all please remember that the work being carried out is essential and important to the continued and future running of the club. See you all next week! Dan | |
